Rivercat Wind is a 300MW wind project that will bring a new source of income that passes economic benefits to all parts of the community, while helping maintain farming industries and ways of life.
Wind can be harvested just like any other crop. Wind energy provides an additional income stream, creating more financial security for generations to come. Wind turbines and access roads occupy only about 1% of the leased land, allowing landowners to continue growing crops or raising livestock.
The project is currently in the development phase. During this time, Steelhead and its partners are undertaking a wide array of environmental and engineering studies and analyses to prepare for construction.
Steelhead is actively meeting with landowners, community members, local government, and organizations to share information about Rivercat Wind. By combining broad development expertise with Vestas' leading technology, Steelhead is committed to building clean energy that benefits Allen County.

Property Tax Revenue
The project is expected to generate local property tax revenue, providing long-term funding for schools, emergency services, roads, public safety services, and other county priorities — totaling more than $60 million over the life of the project.
Supporting Landowners
The project is estimated to generate more than $1.5 million in annual landowner payments, supporting local farming families. Wind turbines use only a small portion of the land, allowing farmers to continue growing crops and raising livestock.
Employment Opportunities
Rivercat Wind will create many local employment opportunities, including 270 construction jobs and several well-paying, long-term career opportunities to help maintain and operate the turbines.
Local Spending
Rivercat Wind will bring new economic opportunities to Allen County, including new business for local contractors and trade professionals, as well as increased patronage of restaurants, hotels, and local services throughout the construction period and beyond.
